FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(November 12, 2024, Fort McMurray, AB) – The Athabasca Tribal Council (ATC) is excited to announce Carey Price, former NHL goaltender and inspiring youth speaker, as the keynote speaker for the ATC Career Fair 2025. The event is open to all job seekers and focuses on inspiring Indigenous youth and community members to achieve their educational and career goals. The event is a key initiative for building a brighter future for the region. The Fair is being held on April 8 and 9, 2025, at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray.
Chief Allan Adam expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "We are thrilled to welcome Carey Price as the keynote speaker. Carey’s journey from Anahim Lake to NHL stardom shows the power of determination to take the steps needed to see your dreams become real. His story will inspire all youth and job seekers, to reach for their goals, no matter how far away they seem."
"It’s an honour to have Carey Price join us,” added Karla Buffalo, ATC CEO. “His commitment to encouraging Indigenous youth to be proud of their culture is a message we want upcoming generations to hear and feel in their hearts. We believe his message will empower all young people to reach their full potential."
Carey Price, a proud member of the Ulkatcho First Nation, began his journey in Anahim Lake, Northern BC, learning to skate on a river rink. He was drafted fifth overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2005 and became the franchise's all-time leader in wins. Price made history in 2015 as the first goalie to win the Hart Memorial, Vezina, William M. Jennings, and Ted Lindsay awards in a single season. He has also represented Canada, winning gold at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championships, the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
The ATC Career Fair 2025 will feature exhibitors and presenters to explore education, employment, and career development opportunities. Carey Price’s inspiring story and dedication to Indigenous youth promise an impactful event for all.
