Corbin’s Journey to Earning His Driver’s License
Meet 16-year-old Corbin, a goal-oriented Inuit youth from Fort McMurray who recently completed his Class 5 driver's license through the Athabasca Tribal Council's Driver Training Program – an important and impressive achievement.
Corbin learned about the program from Melanie Fost, ATC’s Employment and Training Project Coordinator, and quickly jumped at the opportunity. His journey began with a Driver Education course, followed by in-vehicle instruction with Fort Auto Driving School.
The results were life-changing. “It was amazing how much my driving improved after the program. Attending this program led to me passing my road test and achieving my Class 5 Driver’s License,” said Corbin. He would recommend this program to anyone learning to drive because of the organization and well-planned structure.
Now, with a Class 5 license in hand, Corbin has new independence and more opportunities ahead, whether it’s taking on summer jobs or going fishing with friends.
ATC’s Employment and Training Team is proud to support youth like Corbin in building essential life skills that open doors to future careers and personal growth.
The Driver Training Program is made possible through the support of Service Canada, the Government of Alberta Indigenous Relations, and the Athabasca Tribal Council.
